동년배

‘동년배’ means a peer. On Korean internet, the word is used as a meme to make fun of older people who pretends to be young.

The meme was born because ‘동년배’ is a word that is not commonly used among young people. Thus, when someone says, “I’m 18 years old, and all my 동년배 hate president Moon,” the awkwardness of the sentence tells that the speaker is obviously not as young as he claims to be.

The meme is often used with hyperbole. For example, some people make it even awkward by saying “I’m three years old and all my 동년배 like Pororo.” Also, one can simply say “I’m a 동년배,” although it doesn’t literally make sense.
